Meaning of the Egyptian flag

Red, white and black, with the golden Eagle of Saladin in the middle. According to the common explanation, red stands for the period before the 1952 revolution, white for the peaceful revolution itself and black for the end of oppression.

This has been the flag of Egypt since 1984.
