Meaning of the Ukrainian flag

Blue above, yellow below. According to the common explanation, blue stands for the sky and yellow for the country's wheat fields.

The colours were already used in 1918; since 1992 this has officially been the flag of independent Ukraine. The country celebrates Flag Day on 23 August.
