Meaning of the Brazilian flag

Green with a yellow rhombus and a blue celestial globe bearing the motto 'Ordem e Progresso': order and progress. The 27 stars stand for the states and the federal district, and show the sky over Rio de Janeiro on 15 November 1889, the day of the republic.

In the old explanation, green came from the royal House of Braganza and yellow from the Habsburgs.
