Meaning of the Colombian flag

Yellow, blue and red, with the yellow taking up the top half. According to the common explanation, yellow stands for the country's wealth, blue for the seas and red for the blood of the independence fighters.

The colours go back to Francisco de Miranda, one of the pioneers of South American independence.
