A beach flag rarely blows over because of the wind itself. It blows over because the base underneath does not suit the surface. That is good news, because you can get that choice right in two minutes.
The only question that matters: where will it stand?
It is not the height of the flag that decides which base you need, nor the weight of the fabric. What counts is the surface. If you can push something into it, a ground spike is always the best and cheapest solution. If you cannot, the weight has to come from above.
Soft ground: grass, sand or soil
Drive a ground spike into the ground, slide the mast in and secure it with the screw. Done. A one-kilo spike holds a four-metre flag better than a loose fifteen-kilo base, because the force goes into the ground instead of levering against a plate.

Hard surface: paving, asphalt, exhibition floor
Here you need a cross base: four arms that unfold into an X. Indoors that is enough. Outdoors it is not. A 3.1 kg cross base will not hold a three-metre beach flag through the first decent gust — the leverage is simply too great.
So lay a water bag over it. It drops like a ring over the cross base and brings the whole thing to around fifteen kilos. Empty it weighs nothing, so you carry it easily and fill it on site with a watering can or a bottle.
Staying put for a long time? Get a base plate
For a flag that stands for months at your shopfront, showroom or company entrance, water becomes awkward — it leaks, it freezes and you have to top it up. A 15 kg steel base plate solves that for good. The rotator in the middle also lets the flag turn with the wind instead of fighting it, which saves the fabric and keeps your logo readable.
Is your car there anyway? Then this is the sturdiest
At an event, open day, market or building site your van or car is often parked next to the stand anyway. Drive one wheel onto a drive-on base. The weight of the car holds the flag, and that beats any loose base. No water needed, no soil needed.

What a base cannot fix
Beach flags are made for wind up to about 35 km/h. That is a stiff breeze, not a storm. Above that it is no longer about the base but about the mast: it bends or breaks. So take the flag in when it really starts blowing. That takes thirty seconds and saves you a new mast.
Two practical tips that often help: do not put the flag right next to a building corner, because wind accelerates sharply there. And never leave a beach flag on a cross base unattended in a car park — a falling four-metre mast does more damage than the flag costs.
